Current Read: “My Name is Red” by Orhan Pamuk. Deeply imaginative and very enjoyable!
“For if a lover’s face survives emblazoned on your heart, the world is still your home.”—Orhan Pamuk, My Name is Red.
I read this book because I remember Dr. Yothers recommending it as a fine piece of gothic literature. While I was trying to keep an eye on the gothic elements, I remember being more taken aback by the constant back-and-forth about the nature of art and artistic pursuits— whether making them reflect reality makes them more worthwhile. I’d cite an example but it’s been a few years.
I wonder it you’ve already come upon the master narrator of the whole thing? I don’t want to say too much just in case, but that was a real kicker.
