Last week, I asked LJ Tumblr readers to answer a short survey. Here’s the first set of data from those question! Check out where Tumblarians are reading LJ across the globe and the country over at Google Maps. (Be warned, there were so many responses that locations are split up over two pages.)

Now imagine if you all tagged your posts #tumblarians and we could hang out ALL THE TIME no matter where we live.

This may be a good way to reward creativity, but it also adds rules and restricts access to fan fiction.

So no.

Would it get some people off my back for dedicating my time (let’s face it, working) creating something I receive no quantifiable compensation for? Yes. I think my husband would love this.

But no.

I write fan fiction because I have fun spending time with others’ creations. I’m flattered when someone takes the time to read my fanfic, and exstatic when someone deigns to compliment it. I’d feel weird getting paid for it, even if the original creator is getting compensated also.

But, hey!

What about those original creators (authors, screenwriters, etc.)? What’s their problem? I think I’d start flailing around and foaming at the mouth if someone was so moved by something I’d created that they wanted to think about it even after they were done consuming it— not to mention spend time and creative energy engaging with it.

But I guess Amazon will do what it will. These are just my thoughts.

That being said, I can think of a few authors who could make a shit-ton of money (relatively speaking) from this purchasing model.

Unfortunately we were on the freeway. Because I wanted some measure of revenge and not murder charges, I did something sneaky and passive-aggressive. Also unfortunate: it was so sneaky that I’m still waiting for results. :(
